What this Venus wants
Everybody knows their Sun sign, and the Sun sign is the least useful thing on a chart for a question about love. It describes what you are becoming over a lifetime. Venus describes what happens in the first three weeks.
Venus is the planet of attraction and of value — what pulls you, what you find beautiful, what you are willing to give to keep something. In a birth chart it answers a narrower and far more practical set of questions than the Sun does. How do you flirt? Do you decide fast or circle for months? Why your Venus is not your Sun sign
Venus never travels far from the Sun as seen from Earth — at most about 47 degrees — so it is always in your Sun sign or within two signs of it. That is a small enough range that most people can guess wrong in a very specific way: they assume Venus matches the Sun, and about four times in five it does not.
That closeness is also why the calculator only needs a date. Venus covers roughly one degree a day, so it stays in the same sign for three to five weeks at a stretch. Unless you were born on the day it changed sign, the hour does not matter. If you were, this page will tell you rather than pick one for you.
