What Tarot Cannot Tell You

Most writing about tarot is about what it can do. This is the other list, and it is shorter and more useful.

We have a commercial interest in you using this site, which makes this an odd page to publish. It is here because the fastest way to lose someone is to be caught overclaiming, and because the boundary is genuinely where the value is: a tool that admits what it cannot see is worth more than one that answers everything.

It cannot confirm what another person is doing privately

No spread can tell you whether someone is cheating. Not with the Seven of Swords, not with the Moon, not with any combination.

What a reading can honestly describe is the distance you are sensing — where it sits, whether it is coming from him or from you, what is not being said. That is real and it is often the thing that needed naming. It is also not evidence, and it should never be presented as any. The full version of that argument is on is he cheating, including the part people find hardest: that suspicion feels exactly like knowledge and is produced just as reliably by anxiety.

The same applies to whether he is seeing someone, what he said to his friends, and what he is thinking right now. Those are facts about another adult's inner life, and a deck of cards does not have access to them.

It cannot give you a date

Timing systems in tarot exist, several of them, and they contradict each other. A single card yields three different answers depending on which school you apply, and nothing in the deck tells you which to use. We wrote that out in full in why tarot is bad at dates.

A reader who hands you a month is choosing the system that produced a satisfying answer. By the time it is wrong, the reading has already done its emotional work.

It cannot commit another person to an action

"He will come back by autumn" is not a reading. Another adult's future decisions are not readable, by anyone, and the confidence with which this is done is inversely related to how much it should be trusted.

What is readable is the state of a connection now — whether it is live, stalled, or finished. That is the honest raw material for your own decision, and it is what will he come back is built on.

It cannot answer medical, legal or financial questions

Our readers refuse these outright, and that refusal is written into the system prompt rather than left to judgement. Health, pregnancy, money and legal matters get a redirection to a professional, every time, in all 22 languages.

This is not caution for its own sake. Those four categories are where a confident wrong answer does real damage, and where the pull toward giving one is strongest, because the person asking is frightened.

It cannot tell you that someone is your twin flame

There is no test for it, in the framework or outside it, and the term is used to explain away unavailable and unkind behaviour often enough that it deserves naming. Intensity is not evidence of destiny — intermittent attention produces a stronger pull than steady attention, and that is a documented effect rather than a spiritual one. Twin flame reunion takes the framework seriously and still says this.

What it does well

Everything above is the boundary. Inside it, the tool is genuinely useful for one thing: showing you the shape of a situation from outside your own account of it.

That is not a small thing. Most people asking these questions already have the information and cannot see it, because they are inside it and have been rehearsing one version for weeks. A spread interrupts the rehearsal. It names what is being avoided, where the weight sits, and which part is yours.

People usually recognise the answer immediately. That recognition is the mechanism, and it does not require anything supernatural to be worth having.

How to spot a reading that has crossed the line

  • It gives you a date.
  • It tells you what a specific third party is doing or thinking.
  • It is certain.
  • It answers a health or money question without flinching.
  • It never says "I don't know".

Any one of those is a signal to discount the rest of it, wherever you got it — including here.
